Cultura holds pot-luck luncheon
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Cultura Book Club began the 2008-09 club year with a pot-luck luncheon, to which the members brought their favorite salads.

Twenty-three members gathered in the guest house of Linda Armstrong, with Julia Sers and Loyce Whitlock serving as co-hostesses.

Sue Drewett, president, conducted the meeting. After secretary Pat McClendon and treasurer Peggy McGaugh had given their reports, club members discusses service projects for the year, beginning with filling Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for distribution on Franklin Graham's program, "Samaritan's Purse."

Linda Armstrong, vice president and program chairman, presented yearbooks to the members. The yearbook committee, who worked with Armstrong during the summer to plan the year's programs, consisted of Kitty Liner, Julia Sers and Loyce Whitlock.

The theme for the year is "friendship." Featured on the front inside cover of the new yearbook is a poem, "Cultura Friends," written by Lisa Lawrence, daughter of member Kitty Liner. The poem was written in memory of Jo Chisholm Adams, beloved Cultura member who died in April 2008. Adams was a charter member of the club, which began in 1955.

The next meeting will be held on Oct. 6.
