Neville picks up big win in Texas
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Neville crossed state lines and brought home a victory after a 42-13 win at Marshall, Tex., Friday night.

Running back DeAndre Reed rushed for 238 yards on 25 carries to lead the Tigers (3-1) to their third consecutive victory.

After opening up the season with a 19-7 loss to rival Ruston, the Neville has been unstoppable. With a balanced offense and swarming defense, the Tigers have found a recipe for success.

Neville was looking to avenge a 30-23 loss to Marshall (3-1) in the 2007 season.

Two third quarter passing touchdowns were the only big plays for Marshall all night as the Tigers limited the Mavericks' high-powered rushing attack.

Quarterback Taylor Birch started the scoring with a 14-yard scamper into the endzone at the end of the first period of play to give Neville a 7-0 lead. Neville forced a Marshall fumble on the next drive to set up Reed for a 30-yard sprint to the end zone and a 14-0 lead for the Tigers. Reed was the star of the first half with 159 rushing yards in the first two quarters of play.

Neville kept Marshall out of the endzone in the second quarter long enough to build a 29-0 halftime lead after a touchdown pass from Birch to Josh Ellis. Then Reed added his second score of the night to put Neville in cruise control.

With the run defense in high gear for Neville, Marshall went into a pass offense to spread the field in the second half.

It was successful as Marshall got two third quarter touchdowns. It proved to be too little too late, though, after closing Neville's lead to 29-13.

Birch lead Neville on a pair of scoring drives in the final period to give Neville the victory and huge momentum going into the Tigers' contest against Wossman Friday night.
