Story Archives: Wossman scampers by St. Frederick

Wossman scampers by St. Frederick

Wossman continued its dominating performances by putting together a victory at St. Frederick Friday night. The Wildcats bested the Warriors, 32-6.

Quarterback Bam Charleston had a coming out party for Wossman (4-0). The junior completed 10-of-11 passes for 262 yards and accounted for four touchdowns in the contest. Charleston ran for a score, while tossing three touchdown strikes.

"Bam (Charleston) did a great job in managing the offense and running the plays," said Wossman head coach Vince Landrum. "I thought we played real good defense, too."

Wossman used multiple packages on defense to keep the Warrior (1-3) passing game off balance. Landon Williams completed just 5-of-15 passes for 24 yards.

Williams scored the lone St. Frederick touchdown with a 4-yard run for a score late in the game.

Known to be a power running team earlier in the year, Charleston proved Wossman could do more than run the ball, improving the Wildcat offense as a whole with his performance against the Warriors.

A 49-yard touchdown strike from Charleston to Demarcus Parson began the scoring and became infectious to the Wossman offense. That Wossman series led to three consecutive touchdown passes in the first half by Charleston, putting St. Frederick in a bind quickly.

"When they pressed and stopped the run with (Chris) Buttitta we were in trouble," said Warriors head coach Paul Geurrerio. "We have to improve on reading defenses to improve on offense."

Ced Jacobs and Demorris Hamburg were the recipients of the final two touchdown passes Charleston tossed in the second quarter.

The Warriors never were able to establish their smash-mouth rushing attack behind Buttitta, a talented half back who has served as St. Frederick's workhorse all season. Buttitta ran for 63 yards on 17 carries.

This week, Wossman takes a trip across town to Neville (3-1). St. Frederick hits the road to tangle with LaSalle (3-1). Kickoff in both contests is set for 7 p.m.
