Airline edges West Ouachita, 24-22
West Ouachita continues to strive to throw the monkey off its back following a 24-22 loss to Airline Friday night
West Ouachita (1-3) has lost three straight. The last two weeks the losses have come by a combined three points.
"We have had three tough games in a row," said Chiefs head coach Mitch Thomas. "The kids are focused and practicing hard. We are telling them we have a lot of football left."
The Chiefs have not reached district play yet, but the losses are mounting. West Ouachita fell behind early and fell off late once again in last week's contest with Airline of Shreveport.
Airline (2-2, 0-1) took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. It marked the second straight week the Chiefs found themselves down 10-0 in the first quarter.
"I felt like right now the kids are pressing to make plays instead of trusting the team to help," Thomas said. "We just need them to keep to their assignments."
The Chiefs reeled off 15 unanswered points to take a 15-10 lead into halftime. Matt Calhoun had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the game.
Albert Roberson quickly gave the lead back to Airline in the third quarter on a long touchdown gallop.
The teams continued to trade scores into the fourth quarter when Airline struck with the deciding blow.
With just over three minutes left to play. The Vikings handed off to Chase Fulco who raced 85-yards to pay dirt. |
