Neville heads west to take on Marshall

Neville has come alive after a tough loss to rival Ruston to open the 2008 season.

Neville (2-1) has put together a pair of big victories and is on a successful season path for the year.

They travel to Marshall (Tex.) High this week for a 7 p.m. kickoff in a game they know will be a difficult win.

"They are one of the best teams in their good Texas district," Neville coach Mickey McCarty said. "We need to play real sound football to be successful."

Neville got a three touchdown performance off the arm of junior quarterback Taylor Birch in a 39-6 win over Minden last Friday night.

"Taylor (Birch) has been playing well," McCarty said. "They allowed us to throw the ball and we made some good throws and catches."

Hagan Lawrence made the big defensive play of the game for Neville when he intercepted Minden gunslinger T.Q. Mims and raced 44-yards for a Neville score.

A bye week has allowed injured Marshall running backs J.C. Haigwood and K.D. Johnson time to heal. The bye has not just allowed for healing injuries but has also given Marshall two weeks to study up on the Neville schemes.

Neville will be looking to avenge a 30-23 loss to Marshall at Bill Ruple Stadium from a year ago.
