Panthers face Oak Grove in West Carroll

Dropped passes and turnovers sank any chances the Sterlington Panthers had of overcoming Winnfield last Friday night. The loss opened some eyes.

The 7-6 loss let Sterlington (1-2) know that before playing the historic program of Oak Grove (1-2) they had to get down to some serious work this week.

"Consistency and executing on offense is one big thing," Sterlington head coach Mike Collins said. "We had a size disadvantage against Winnfield, but Oak Grove is a real fine program."

Collins, who went back to school to become a football coach, and Tigers head coach Vic Dalrymple have had a friendship for many years. But, one of their football programs will be 1-3 in the record book after Friday night.

Cutting down on turnovers and mental mistakes is half the battle for the Panthers.

"Mental approach has to get better," Collins said. "We can not have mental breakdowns on every play. The kids know that."

Sterlington quarterback Logan Dobson was just 9-of-22 on Friday. It was the most lackluster total for the Sterlington offense this season.

Oak Grove had a huge set back against rival Farmerville last week during a 36-12 defeat. Oak Grove has also had inconsistent play from the offense and injuries have put the defense in bad situations as well.

Oak Grove will attempt to run the ball and keep Sterlington's offense off of the football field Friday.

The strategy has been successful in the past and neither team has the size in the offensive line as they usually do. That makes for some interesting things to watch out for on Friday.

Kickoff in "The Grove" is set for 7 p.m.
