MSL gears up for October book sale

The Monroe Symphony League book fair will begin Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Book Room, 320 North 4th St., Monroe.

The sale continues Sunday, Oct. 5 and Friday, Oct. 10-Sunday, Oct. 12. Times are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.

A first-day fee of $2 per adult will be charged Saturday, Oct. 4.

Hundreds of titles will be available in many genres, including fiction, non-fiction, arts & crafts, gardening, religion, humor, sports, science fiction, large print, mystery, children's, cookbooks, textbooks and more. A "goodies" section includes coffee-table books, and books about Louisiana or by Louisiana authors.

Also included in the sale will be records, tapes, CDs, DVDs, sheet music and magazines.

Proceeds from the sale are used to support the Monroe Symphony Orchestra and the Margory Sticklin Emerging Artists' competition held each January. The proceeds also fund Sound Safari, a MSL project which gives area elementary students an opportunity to attend a live symphonic concert geared toward children.
