Wossman, Washington-Mario to do battle in Lake Charles

The Wossman Wildcats will hit the road Friday for a 7 p.m. contest at Washington-Marion.

The Wildcats enjoyed a rousing 20-12 win over arch-rival Carroll last week.

Wossman (2-0) has been successful running and passing the football, but it has been the Wildcat physical rushing attack that's led the way so far in the 2008 season.

"We are executing real well on offense," said Wossman head coach Vince Landrum. "We will work this week on not turning the ball over and continue to listen to the coaches in practice."

Landrum has been very pleased with the way the team has listened and taken their game preparations into the Friday night games.

"They are listening and responding to the coaches," Landrum said. "It is important that we continue to work hard and get better."

Wilbert Williams and Herderius Scott have carried the load for the Wossman offense so far this season.

Williams broke 100 yards rushing in both contests. Scott had a pair of rushing touchdowns Friday night against Carroll, which helped pull his team through to victory.

Washington-Marion had its first contest of the season washed out by Hurricane Gustav. The following week, though, Washington-Marion blew away Class 4A Peabody Magnent, 32-14.

An aggressive, blitzing defense has been the key to success for Washington-Marion. That concerns the Wossman coaches, who wonder how athletic they are offensively.

Washington-Marion also is a disciplined squad defensively, while the Indians are expected to use a strong running game to open up passing lanes deep down field.

Kickoff at Washington-Marion High School in Lake Charles is scheduled for 7 p.m.
