River Oaks uses bye week to its advantage With a week to get back to the fundamentals, the River Oaks Mustangs (3-1) used this week in practice to get better at the little things.
"We have been working on fundamentals," said River Oaks head coach Robert Hannah. "We've been working on offensive execution and tackling on defense."
While most football coaches can find something about their teams to work on, or improve upon, River Oaks doesn't have much to complain about lately. The Mustangs are clicking on all cylinders heading into a game against Central Private next Friday night.
River Oaks quarterback Cody Trichell has produced on the ground and through the air. Trichell has impressed with his understanding of the offense and his protecting the football in key situations.
The combination of Trichell and Vince Moore in the backfield has been lethal for opposing defenses. John Rockett has been workhorse in backfield, posting a pair of touchdowns, too.
Rockett and Trichell are also a part of a Mustang defensive unit that has allowed just 13.5 points per game over the past two weeks. This week's bye offers the Mustangs an opportunity to get back to the basics.
"We've been lifting weights and working on the basic stuff," Hannah said. "We have a tough stretch coming up and we need to be ready to play next week." |
