West Monroe farmer's market preps for fall The West Monroe Farmer's Market is gearing up for its fall display and produce, some of which will be available this week.
"The market will really kick off in a big way in a week to 10 days," said Mayor Dave Norris. "I love that in the fall. We always have one of the biggest collections of pumpkins and gourds, and a huge amount of flowers, and all the fall produce is starting to come in from the fall gardens."
"It's kind of like a little reopening of the farmer's market," he said. "We've got a number of vendors who will be bringing in things."
Sandra Bourgeois, West Monroe's director of Parks and Recreation, said the farmer's market will begin placing some of its displays by the end of the week.
"We'll have a fall harvest area that should be quite pretty," she said. "We'll have some picture opportunities for children out there. We love for the kids to come out."
"We hope everyone will come and enjoy the fall produce and decorate their yards," Bourgeois added.
Next year, Bourgeois hopes to decorate North 7th Street with fall items.
"When people come off I-20 they could ride down North 7th to the farmer's market and see the decorations," Bourgeois explained. "I think that's a great idea. I went to a city that did that, and it was so cute."
"I think that would help draw even more people to our farmer's market," she said.
The farmer's market is open from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. |
