Wossman wins 'Baby Bayou Classic' for bragging rights in Monroe

The Wossman Wildcats prevailed 20-12 over their arch-rival Carroll Bulldogs Friday in what has become known as "The Baby Bayou Classic."

"We played hard and consistent all the way through," said Wossman coach Vince Landrum. "We made enough big plays to win the ball game."

Wilbert Williams was the star of the Wildcats' jamboree win over Carroll. This time around, Herdurius Scott made the big plays to help Wossman (2-0) pull out the victory.

Scott rushed for 59 yards on the night. He put Wossman on top in the second quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run.

It took Wossman a quarter to get its offense in gear. The Wildcats got in gear offensively thanks to Scott, who sparked a resurgence in the Wossman ground game.

"It is very important for them to listen," Landrum said. "This group of young men is doing a good job of taking things we tell them in practice into the game."

Quarterback Xavier Gray scored on a fourth quarter scramble to get Carroll back into the ball game.

Williams was still a force the Bulldogs had trouble stopping. He finished with 101 yards rushing on the night.

Carroll was doomed in the second half by five fumbles. One of those came inside the five yard-line of Wossman when it appeared Carroll would take the lead.

Wossman will take to the road again this week at Washington-Marion. Carroll will have another difficult road test when they travel to 5A Sulphur. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday.
