Class 2A Homer tops Class 4A West Ouachita

A slew of costly penalties and turnovers spelled doom for the West Ouachita Chiefs Friday night in a 27-12 loss at the hands of the Homer Pelicans.

West Ouachita (1-1) struck first when Jarvis Grayson took a Matt Calhoun pitch and raced 40-yards for a score to post a first quarter lead of 6-0 for the Chiefs. The extra point attempt failed.

Homer (2-0) quickly responded with a 40-yard touchdown run by Tony Casey. The PAT was good for a 7-6 second quarter lead.

Pelicans quarterback Jarvis Morgan then found Dennis Williams for a 37-yard touchdown pass that put Homer on top 14-6 going into intermission.

After halftime, Casey again found the end zone from two-yards away to give Homer a 21-6 lead, which the Pelicans did not not relinquish.

Grayson was the games top rusher for the Chiefs with 143 yards on 17 carries.

Casey finished the game with 108 yards and two touchdowns rushing to pull Class 2A Homer past Class 4A West Ouachita.

A pair of second half fumbles, including one that stopped a long drive late in the game, was a key component of the loss for the Chiefs.

West Ouachita will return to the road his week when the Chiefs travel to Haughton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
