Richwood falls to 0-2 with 37-7 loss to Calvary Baptist

Shifting the schedule for the second consecutive week, the Richwood Rams again found themselves on the short end in Louisiana High School Athletic Assocation play, posting a 37-7 loss to Class 2A powerhouse Calvary Baptist Friday night at Rams Stadium.

Richwood (0-2) methodically marched down field in the opening minutes of the Calvary Baptist contest to take 7-0 lead off a Greg Johnson touchdown pass.

Calvary (2-0) settled down at that point on and did not allow Richwood into the end zone for the rest of the game.

"Greg (Johnson) had a good game under the circumstances," said Richwood coach Warren Trimble. "We have to fix some things in the offensive line. We are not real good there right now."

The Cavalier defense and special teams got into the scoring following a blocked punt for a touchdown and a fumble return for a touchdown by Jordan Hollins.

Calvary quarterback Beau Gipson was lethal on the night. Gipson had touchdown passes to Hunter Ward and Wes Nale before rushing in a couple of scores as well.

Even with another loss to their record, coaches feel Richwood's determination to succeed is shining through.

"I was real proud of the way we kept fighting," Trimble said. "We did not give in against a really good football team."

Richwood will continue to sort through a very tough non-district schedule this week with a trip to Bastrop. Kickoff against the two-time defending 4A state champions is set for 7 p.m.
