Emergency and elected officials throughout Ouachita Parish urge all residents to prepare for the potential of widespread flooding due to unpredictable amounts of rainfall which will be associated with Hurricane Ike.
Due to the amount of rainfall related to Hurricane Gustav, all of the major drainage outlets and tributaries in Ouachita Parish are at or near capacity. In addition to that, the Ouachita River and Bayou Lafourche have additional water flowing into them from the north (Arkansas).
Residents throughout Ouachita Parish, especially those in flood prone areas, are urged to prepare for possible flooding within the next week. Although it is not a certainty, it is in the best interest of all residents to begin making preparations now. |
