Rome, Garbarino lead Bearcats over Neville Behind a rejuvenated Nick Rome and a stingy defense, the Ruston Bearcats defeated the Neville Tigers Friday night, 17-6.
Rome was benched in the first quarter for skipping class earlier in the week. After entering the game in the second quarter, the senior didn't lead the Bearcats to pay dirt, and Neville took over on downs.
The Ruston defense quickly turned the momentum, though, with a safety. The Bearcat's stopped Neville running back DeAndre Reed from getting out of his own end zone, handing Ruston a 2-0 lead in the second quarter.
Rome marched Ruston down field on the next possession ending with his own touchdown run. A two-point conversion attempt was successful when Rome found a wide-open Ross Garbarino for a 10-0 Ruston lead.
A pair of field goals got Neville back in the game.
The second half saw both teams commit a pair of turnovers, Neville converted the first Ruston fumble into the Tigers' second field goal conversion of the night to cut the Bearcats lead to 10-6.
Ruston's Garbarino finished the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 29-yard touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone. A pair of Neville defenders failed to wrestle the ball away from the senior wide-out.
Neville will square off with another rival Friday when the Tigers visit Lions Stadium to face Ouachita Friday. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. |
