OCS whips Mangham; Eagles await Vidalia In light of the impact Hurricane Gustav delivered to north Louisiana, the Ouachita Christian Eagles waited until Saturday night to get their season under way against Mangham.
It did not take Jacob Davis and the OCS offense long to get cranked up as OCS amassed 569 yards of offense en route to a 51-29 whipping of the visiting Dragons.
Glenn Marshall got OCS (1-0) on the scoreboard first with a 44-yard burst through the Mangham defense.
Following a Mangham (0-1) fumble, Davis scampered into the end zone from 40 yards away to put the Eagles up, 14-0.
"I was real proud of our effort on offense," OCS head coach Steven Fitzugh said. "We executed on both sides of the ball."
Mangham running back Solomon Ward got the Dragons back in the game with an electrifying 93-yard kickoff return for a score following the Davis touchdown.
A pair of touchdowns from Matt Kennedy paced the Eagles in the second half. Kennedy, who had 123 yards receiving and 75 yards rushing on the night, has emerged as a real weapon for the OCS offense in 2008.
Kennedy ran the ball in on one drive in the second quarter to help OCS gain a 45-21 advantage at halftime.
An ironclad OCS defense held the Dragons at bay with a Ward touchdown run being the Dragons lone score of the second half.
OCS will entertain Vidalia at Eagles Stadium Friday night at 7 p.m. |
