Carroll, Ouachita match-up cancelled; Lions, Richwood agree to play
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
With the first game of the regular season at Carroll cancelled because of Hurricane Gustav, the Ouachita Lions were left scrambling to find a team to play Friday night.

Ouachita didn't have to look far since the Richwood Rams' first game of the season was cancelled, too, thanks to Gustav.

So, Ouachita and Richwood will square off Friday at Ouachita at 7 p.m.

It will be an old fashioned rivalry, which the fans on both sidelines certainly will find exciting.

"The field is extremely wet," Ouachita coach John Carr said. "We just needed to play somebody."

Carr said the hectic week has been hard on his coaches and players, but his team is very excited to play a parish rival such in Richwood.

"We did not get to see film on them," Carr said. "(Coach Warren) Trimble and I talked and told each other about our basic offensive and defensive schemes."

The Lions were in a similar situation in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina.

Holy Cross of New Orleans made the trip to Monroe to play the Lions that year on a Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Carroll was still searching for an opponent Thursday night to fill a void on its schedule in light of the Ouachita match-up being cancelled.
