Wossman heads to Logansport for first regular season contest in 2008

Following a 12-7 victory over their cross-town rival Carroll Friday night in jamboree action, the Wossman Wildcats have worked around Hurricane Gustav to prepare for the 2008 season-opener at Logansport.

Game time at Logansport is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Wildcat running back Robert Williams put Wossman on the board first in the jamboree against Carroll, rushing for a 21-yard score to open up a 7-0 lead.

Wossman's defense showed up, too. It limited the vaunted Carroll passing attack, allowing one passing touchdown on the night.

As all coaches look to make major improvement going into the start of the regular season, Wossman coach Vince Landrum saw some adjustments coaches needed to make following the jamboree.

"I think we need to get better execution in the passing game," Landrum said. "We ran the ball fairly well, but our pass protection needs to get better."

"We played well defensively (against Carroll)," Landrum said. "We had some missed assignments but that is going to happen."

Landrum wants to see his Wildcats play with more intensity on defense when they take on Logansport.

"On defense, I look for the effort and intensity to be there," Landrum said. "I thought we did a good job (against Carroll) but we need a little bit more intensity."

Like every other high school football program around the state, Wossman has been on the practice field sparingly this week. The Wildcats cancelled practice Tuesday afternoon because of heavy rain in the Monroe area.
