Heavy rain, wind expected in northeast Louisiana The National Weather Service expects severe weather and high winds in northeast Louisiana through Wednesday as Hurricane Gustav moves through the state.
Gustav made landfall earlier this morning (Monday) near Houma. It weakened to a category 2 storm at landfall.
Thunderstorms could hit northeast Louisiana today (Monday), possibly after 1 p.m., the National Weather Service reported. Gusts of wind could reach 25 mph.
Monday night, winds could range from 25 mph to 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue through Tuesday with winds ranging from 45 mph to as high as 60 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Flash flood watches will continue through Tuesday evening for most of northeast Louisiana parishes, including Caldwell, Franklin, Lincoln, Ouachita, and Union parishes.
Gustav is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of six to 12 inches over parts of Louisiana. Some 20 inches of rain could fall by late Thursday.
Tropical storm wind warnings are in place for Caldwell, Lincoln and Ouachita parishes until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is possible on Thursday through Friday afternoon.
Friday night through Sunday, there will be a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. |
