The Gov. William C.C. Claiborne Chapter of the United States Daughters of 1812 met July 17 for a luncheon at the Monroe home of Mrs. John J. Stack.

She and Mrs. Ralph C. Lane were hostesses for the occasion, which honored Mrs. Herbert E. Jakes as the new state president of the society.

Member State Rep. Kay Katz was unable to attend, but sent a bouquet of flowers to be presented to Mrs. Jakes.

After the luncheon, the chapter business meeting was called to order by the chapter president, Mrs. Lane. Mrs. J. Harrell Lary led the ritual, assisted by Mrs. Lane, and all participated in the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Mrs. Jakes cited several ideas and tentative plans she has for guiding the state organization during her term as president.

Three members of the local chapter were presented certificates for 25 years of membership: Mrs. Paul J. Bonin, Mrs. Ralph C. Lane and mrs. J. Harrel Lary.

The chapter will meet next on Sept. 25.

Those present and not listed above were Luelle Snyder, Mrs. Cotham Haddad and Mrs. C. Harold Clark Jr.
