Whitworth inks extension
Andrew Whitworth, a graduate of both West Monroe and LSU, as well as former standout for both teams, has signed a $30 million extended contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Whitworth, who has started on the offensive line for the Bengals the past two seasons, began fall training camp this week as the Bengals get ready for the 2008 season.
Whitworth's contract is good through 2013.
Bengals officials have told Whitworth they want him to stick around, and Whitworth agreed.
"There's no question about his ability," said West Monroe coach Don Shows. "We knew early on he would have the opportunity to one day play in the NFL because of his work ethic. He works out in the weight room two and a half hours every day. I can't say enough about him."
Whitworth played on the 2000 state 5A championship team and graduated in 2001.
He played on the LSU national championship team in 2004.
The Bengals do not play the New Orleans Saints during the season, but they do play the Dallas Cowboys (who also have former Whitworth teammate Bradie James), on
Sunday, Oct. 5 and at the Houston Texans, Sunday, Nov. 9. They do play the Saints in the preseason, but the game is in Cincinnati.
Both Dallas and Houston games start at 1 p.m.
Whitworth is currently at the Bengals training camp and could not be reached for comment. |
