Wossman expecting more of same
by Joe Durham, Jr. - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Wossman Wildcats would like nothing better than to improve on their 2007 record which saw them advance to the state 3A playoffs, but the first round was as far as they got.

The season was an up and down one for the Wildcats before the playoffs began.

"We have a real good nucleus of players coming back," said Wossman coach Vincent Landrum. "We've got experience in the skill positions coming back."
Landrum said Rayville and Richwood would be the teams to beat in the District 1-3A this season.

"It's a very competitive district," Landrum said. "It's very wide open. We got better last year as the season went on."

One of his main players coming back is senior quarterback Abayom Charleston, a 6-0, 175 lb starter.

On defense, Landrum welcomes back Randall Caster, a 5-11, 205 lb. linebacker.

After winning the first two games last season, they dropped a 14-6 contest to Washington-Marion.

The Wildcats rebounded with a 26-0 victory over St. Frederick, but Neville came in to win 35-8.

Wossman won its next two games, a 26-16 victory over Richwood, then a 44-20 trouncing of Madison. They went one and done in the state playoffs as Redemptorist won a first round game 34-0.

B.T. Washington edged the Wildcats by a 24-21 margin, and Rayville won by a 43-20 mark. Wossman closed out the season with a 17-14 win over Green Oaks.
In 2008, Wossman opens at Logansport, then opens at home to take on Carroll.
Washington-Marion makes the trip to Wildcat country, and Wossman goes on the road after that for three straight times.

They go to Neville, Richwood and Madison before coming back home to take on B. T. Washington. Rayville comes in the next week and the season ends at Green Oaks.
