Jindal vetoes Strauss Theatre money
by Michael DeVault - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Gov. Bobby Jindal vetoed some $50,000 in state funding for Strauss Theatre Center in Monroe.

Jindal's veto of the Strauss funding was one of some 258 line items contained in House Bill 1 the goveror announced Monday. HB 1, which the Legislature approved the recent Regular Session, is the bill that outlines the state's spending plan for the 2008-09 fiscal year.

Walsworth secured the money for Strauss Theatre to help pay for replacing an aging roof at the main theatre complex at its Lamy Lane location.

Jindal previously said he would veto state funding for any project that was not a "priority of a state agency." He also has said he would veto any funding for projects that did not have region-wide impact.

Walsworth said he was informed Saturday the money for the Strauss roof would be vetoed.

(The Ouachita Citizen will provide a detailed report on the line-item vetoes Jindal announced Monday in the newspaper's July 17 print edition as well as online.)
