Claiborne sends two to BRCC
by Joe Durham, Jr. - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Two Claiborne Chrisitan School baseball players have decided to continue their playing at the next level.

Adam Cernigliaro and Ryan Powell, both instrumental in Claiborne's drive to the state Class C championship in the spring, have decided to carry their play to Baton Rouge Community College.

Powell was the shortstop in the championship game and Cernigliaro was the starting pitcher

The Crusaders scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-2 victory.

Cernigliaro was a starting pitcher for the Crusaders and the winning pitcher in the championship game as he allowed Elizabeth two runs early. The Crusaders came back to score four runs in the top of the seventh to clinch the victory.

"I believe both of them will be able to play at the next level," said first-year coach Chad Olinde. "I actually got to see them play in a tournament the first of the year. I was impressed with both of them."

Olinde returns to the Crusaders after having several years in private business.
Crusader fans may remember Olinde as the baseball coach from 1997-99.
Claiborne Christian School is located in West Monroe.

Olinde took the job after former coach Steven Miller was dismissed for undisclosed reasons.
