Peak sending 40 athletes to regionals
The Peak Performance Track Club of Monroe will be sending 40 athletes to the Regional Junior Olympic Championships July 9-12 in Hoover, Ala.
This meet will be sponsored by the USA Track & Field Association. The top five finishers in each event in the Junior Olympics Southern Association championships will go to the meet.
The 40 competitors participated in the USA Track and Field Southern Association Junior Olympics. Winners of this Southern Association meet will go to the national Junior Olympics championships in Omaha, Neb., in July.
Top performer for Peak Performance at the Southern Association Junior Olympics was Jennifer Goss, who won all the events she entered, including the shot put, discus, javelin and hammer throw.
"Jennifer has been with us since the seventh grade," said Peak Performance coach Dennis Groll. "She's had the opportunity to compete and its helped her get ready for the
competition in 2A."
Goss attends Sterlington High School where she will be a senior this fall. This spring she was the state 2A champion in the discus and the state runner-up in the javelin.
"This is the most we've ever had qualify for the regionals," Groll said. "Many of our athletes also turned in personal bests in this meet as well and many showed a great deal of improvement."
