Strauss Theatre delivers 'Baby' Three couples of varying ages. Three unexpected pregnancies. That's the premise of "Baby: The Musical," which opens this week on Strauss Theatre Center's MainStage.
MainStage artistic director Dennis Gleason called "Baby" warm and "immensely likeable."
"This energetic show has been a hit coast to coast," Gleason said. "And no wonder, with such a universal theme that everyone can identify with."
"Baby" tells the story of three couples: unmarried 20-somethings in college who discover they are pregnant, a pair in their 30s who have been struggling to get pregnant and all but given up, and two empty-nesters considering trading their large house for a small apartment.
During the course of the play, each of the couples examines their options and weighs the changes in life a baby can bring.
Gleason said the story will not only entertain but should connect with audiences.
"Rarely does a couple face a more exciting, frightening and utterly transformational event than impending parenthood and the effect it has on their relationship," Gleason said. "This show deals with all the ups and downs, good and bad."
"Baby: The Musical" features a cast of 14 under the direction of Dennis Gleason, with musical direction of Dr. Deborah Chandler. Chandler was assisted by local musician Hank Tharpe.
Tickets for "Baby: The Musical" are on sale now for $15 at the Strauss Theatre Center Box Office.
