CrossFest to rock Grove at ULM

Christian rock groups from as far away as Georgia and Nashville will join several homegrown musical acts Saturday for a day of music and worship in the Grove at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Dubbed CrossFest '08 by event organizers, the one-day music festival will feature 10 area Christian rock groups as well as presentations from several talk-radio personalities.

CrossFest is being presented by Media Ministries, which operates 88.7 FM the Cross and AM 1230, the Source, two Christian radio stations in the Monroe market.

"This is the first festival of its kind here in Monroe," said Rob Tucker, promotions director for Media Ministries. "We're doing this to help local Christian bands to grow, to give them exposure they need to continue ministering."

Tucker said the event will also feature presentations from Bill Scott, of Extreme Talk Live, a talk radio program syndicated on more than 300 stations.

Also, Jack Eason of nationally syndicated program "Sound of Light" will be on hand.

Visitors to CrossFest will be entertained by a number of bands, including event headliners High Flight Society from Georgia and Our Heart's Hero of Nashville.

Among local bands performing are the group Everlast, Fire and Salem and Perfect Tragedy.

CrossFest will also include a volleyball tournament, Frisbee golf tournament and games with prizes for children.

Food vendors will also be on hand throughout the day.

The event's corporate sponsors include Matt's Music, Monroe Packaging, Holzclaw Photography and Lee Edwards Mazda.

National bookseller chain Lifeway Christian Stores has also signed on to sponsor the event.

CrossFest '08 kicks off at noon and will continue until 9 p.m. For more information about the event, contact Media Ministries at (318) 387-1230.
