Pet adoption event on tap Saturday
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
PAWS of Northeast Louisiana will hold an adoption event Saturday, May 31 to help homeless animals find new homes.

The event will be held at Petco from noon to 4 p.m. where dogs and cats available for adoption from the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter will be featured.

Pets now available for adoption can be seen online at www.parishpets.petfinder.com.
The adoption fee is $60 for dogs and $40 for cats. The fee includes a spay/neuter certificate and seven-in-one bordetella vaccinations. Adopters also will receive an adoption kit and a cat or dog training DVD.

Anyone who visits Petco during the offsite adoption event can get one free pet identification tag. Additional tags can be purchased for $2 each.

PAWS provides the tags as part of its tag your pet program, which aids lost pets in finding their way home.

Christy Primm, rescue coordinator for PAWS, encouraged local residents interested in adopting a pet to check out the ones available for adoption from local shelters.

For those who are looking to adopt a dog, Primm says local animal shelters have true breed dogs available.

She says people who are searching for a specific breed of dog most likely will find what they are looking for at one of the local adoption shelters.

She said if the adoption shelters do not have the breed of dog one wants, they should check out the various rescue groups located throughout the state that focus on saving specific breeds of dogs.
