Cultura installs officers

Meeting in the home of Kitty Liner, president, Cultura Book Club concluded the 2007-2008 club year in May with a luncheon and the installation of officers for the coming year.

Chef for the luncheon was host Harry Liner. Hostesses Kitty Liner, Annette Bedgood and Sue Crew assisted with the meal, which was served overlooking the Liner gardens blooming in a profusion of spring flowers.

Pat Morse, retired University of Louisiana at Monroe administrator, used the analogy of a beautiful bouquet of varied flowers to install the 2009-2009 officers.

As she charged each officer with her duties, Morse presented her with a long-stemmed rose, red for the president and white for the other offices. Each officer, in turn, added her rose to a vase, making a bouquet. Then all the members received flowers with which to complete the arrangement, centered by the red rose of the president.

Comparing the bouquet to Culture Book Club officers and members, Morse reminded the group that each member is unique, but each is important to the whole. She called for unity and participation on the part of the members in order to make the next year successful.

Officers installed are president, Sue Drewett; vice-president, Linda Armstrong; secretary, Pat McClendon; treasurer, Peggy McGaugh; parliamentarian and historian, Edwina Welch; reporter, Jean Halsell.Gifts were presented by Morse to the incoming officers and by Liner to the outgoing officers.

Liner was recognized in appreciation for being the only Cultura member to serve as president three tines. Twenty-six members attended. The next regular meeting will be held in September.
