LSU earns No. 7 seed in NCAA tournament; Tigers to host regional
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
BATON ROUGE -- On April 19, the LSU baseball team was in 11th place in the SEC and only seven games over .500. Five weekends later and on a 20-game win streak, Paul Mainieri's eighth-ranked Tigers will bring Alex Box Stadium back to life for an NCAA Regional starting Friday against Texas Southern at 1 p.m. CDT.

The NCAA also sent second-seed New Orleans and third-seed Southern Miss to square off at 6 p.m. in the Baton Rouge Regional.

The LSU Tigers also earned a No. 7 national seed, which would allow LSU to play host to an NCAA Super Regional (June 6-9) at Alex Box Stadium should the Tigers advance past the four-team, double-elimination regional this weekend.

For Super Regional matchups, the Baton Rouge Regional is paired with the Lincoln, Neb., Regional, which includes Nebraska, UC Irvine, Oral Roberts and Eastern Illinois.
