The ULM track and field team went a perfect three-for-three in first place finishes at the NSU-NCAA Qualifiers Meet and freshman Tommy Tumey posted a qualifying mark in the javelin throw on Saturday in Natchitoches.

ULM took only three individuals to the meet, but all three came away with first place finishes amongst a field that included individuals from host-Northwestern State, Grambling State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Sam Houston State.

"We knew coming in that this would be a good opportunity to get a few more qualifying marks," ULM track head coach J.D. Malone said. "Tommy was able to accomplish that, but unfortunately we came up one person short. It was a good showing on our part with all three finishing first."

Tumey became the fourth individual to qualify for the regional meet after posting a mark of 62.60 meters in the javelin to take home top honors. The West Monroe, La.-native joins fellow freshman Kyle Kent (javelin) and junior Destiny Montemayor (hammer and discus) in extending his season.

After coming two hundredths of a second shy of accomplishing a regionally qualifying mark at the conference meet, junior Mychal Word claimed first place in the 400 meter dash on Saturday with a time of 47.60. The time for Word falls four tenths of a second behind where he needed to be.

Rounding out the first place finishes for the Warhawks was junior Heather Davis who continued her hot streak in the high jump. Davis tied her season-best mark of 1.75 meters in claiming first place.

ULM's regionally qualified individuals will next take to the track on Friday, May 30 when they compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
