McAlister's buys eight franchisee-owned restaurants

McAlister's Deli recently purchased eight franchisee-owned restaurants in Louisiana, including the West Monroe location.

The Ridgeland, Miss.-based chain acquired the eight restaurants from Mark Hagwood of Hagwood Management, Inc. in an effort to bolster the company's presence in the area and restructure the split between company-owned and franchisee-owned restaurants.

Over the past six years, the success of McAlister's franchise initiative has shifted the balance between company- and franchisee-owned restaurants to approximately 90 percent franchisee-owned and 10 percent company owned. To restore the balance, McAlister's plans to make upwards of five acquisitions over the next 18 to 24 months.

"This is an exciting opportunity to acquire eight well-performing stores and continue to increase their sales and profitability, which will benefit the company as a whole," said Patrick Walls, senior vice president of McAlister's Deli.

In addition to this acquisition, McAlister's is actively looking for new sites in Baton Rouge and Shreveport and has plans to open a new restaurant in Alexandria in the fall.
