American Legion plans Memorial Day program

The American Legion Post 13 in Monroe will present a Memorial Day program at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at the Legion headquarters, 401 Forsythe Ave.

Featured performers will be Brian Lassiter and the Louisiana Big Band.

Commander Thomas Shoemaker will welcome guests. The program also includes the invocation, to be led by Post 13 chaplain Larry Hibbard; the Honor of the Deceased & Ringing the Bell with Joe Crain assisting; and the Pledge of Allegiance by the Rainbow Girls.

West Monroe High School JROTC will present colors, place the wreath and present the POW/MIA ceremony. Bagpiper Ted Brode and the Red River Pipes & Drums will perform "Amazing Grace" and "Victoria Harbor."

The keynote speaker for the day will be Major Charles A. Hudson, the administrative/operations officer for the 528th Engineer Battalion headquartered in Monroe D Company, 505 PIR Re-enactors will be on hand to display World War II equipment and weapons in front of the American Legion Building.
