Larry Foreman, head of the Archives Department of the Ouachita Parish Library on Stubbs Avenue in Monroe, was the guest speaker at the May meeting of the Chief Tusquahoma chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

He was introduced by first vice regent Mary Sue Mitchell.

His slide presentation consisted of early buildings along Trenton and Commerce streets and other sites. He gave information on the early inhabitants and buildings and he discussed the history of West Monroe's name.

He discussed the city being rebuilt after fires and floods. He also discussed commerce and other details of historic interest and importance.

Gwen Clark, regent, conducted the opening ceremony. After the scripture and prayer, Benjamin Richardson, 3-year-old son of Adam and Amanda Richardson, led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. Benjamin placed his hand over his heart and did not miss a word.

He was introduced by flag chairman Billie Alderman who read a paragraph about teaching children patriotic observances.

The president general's message was read by Lillian Dunlap, and the national defense report by Mary K. Reighney who also read the minutes of the last meeting. Barbara Gewin, chaplain, installed new member Gail Collins.

A thank you note was read from Elaina Mitchell. She was selected as DAR Good Citizen at West Monroe High School. She will use the scholarship at Louisiana State University.

Toni Rodgers gave the treasurer's report and was a hostess with Mary K. Reighney.

In other news, Clark presented ROTC medals to Ashilee Albritton and Natalie Dopson from West Monroe High School at their recent awards banquet. Two medals were given to cadets at West Ouachita High School as well.

Members attending the May meeting not mentioned above were Fannie Oliver, Gladys Brownlee, Dottie Glover, Lillian Dunlap, Delores Gewin, Jo Bennett, and Geraldine Kirby.
