For the first 58 years of its life, the W. E. Cole Cotton States Classic golf tournament has been played at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club in Monroe.

This year, however, marks a shift in the venue for the prestigious north Louisiana classic. For the first time the tournament will be played on the new course at Choudrant, Squire Creek Golf Club.

Cotton States has had some formidable competitors over the years, including Don JAnuary, Hal Sutton, David Tom and Rik Massengale.

The tournament begins on Wednesday and concludes on Saturday, but in case of rain, the final round will be Sunday.

The tournament draws players from all across the country and from outside the country as well.

In fact, winners on two consecutive dates were Neven Basic and Kane Streat, both of Australia

Basic won in 2003 and Streat actually tied with Daniel McGurk of The Woodlands in Texas.

Players from Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee also participate in the event.
