The Downtown Monroe Art Fest 2008 will be held this Saturday from noon-6 p.m. in downtown Monroe around Desiard and 2nd streets.

The event will include live performances and presentations by local musicians, dance and theater companies and student and professional artists.

Some of this year's participants include Louisiana Delta Ballet Company, Twin City Ballet Company, Strauss Theatre, Doodlze Art Studio, Louisiana Tech University School of Art, Louisiana Tech University School of Architecture, student and faculty representatives from the University of Louisiana at Monroe School of Art and the Cinderella Clinic of the Zeta Phi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Music entertainment will be provided by annual Jazz Fest recording artist Kenny Bill Stinson, Montreal Jazz Fest performers LC Smoove, Monty Russell, Jackie Greggs and Kindred Spirit and a high-energy opening performance by cultural arts performer Cynthia Franklin of Shreveport. Festival-goers will enjoy art exhibits from local and regional artists, food from local vendors, a drum circle, costumed street performers and more.
