Elby Arlene Adams
Mrs. Elby Arlene Adams, 76, of Mer Rouge, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008, at Morehouse General Hospital.
Survivors include her three daughters, Montez Fairchild and husband, Sonny, Karen Roman and husband, Mike, and Mary Jo Ward; two sisters, Norma Hafer and Lillian Deal; two brothers, Wyatt Sellers and Edgar Sellers; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Merle Alexander Adams
Merle Alexander Adams passed away in Monroe, where she had lived for 73 years.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Gregg Riley officiating. Arrangements were by Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Adams Jr.; mother, Emma Alexander; father, Samuel Alexander; and brother, Turner Alexander. Survivors include her son, Jay Adams and wife, Coy, of Monroe; daughter, Kay Cole and husband, David, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Bill Adams of Pensacola, Fla., Pete Martel and wife, Nichole, of Baltimore, Md., and Erin Martel of Baltimore, Md.

Delbert Farlow Davis
Funeral services for Mr. Delbert Farlow Davis were at 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation was Sunday evening.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Elaine Davis; son, Ricky Davis; daughter, Renee Nguyen and her husband, Chien; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother; and one sister.

Joe L. DeMoss
Mr. Joe L. DeMoss, 80, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment was in New Light Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday evening.
Survivors include his wife, DeJuana DeMoss; children, Gary DeMoss, Duane DeMoss, Connie Wright and Dale DeMoss; brother, Russell DeMoss; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

John David Goforth
John David Goforth, 25 of West Monroe, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2008, in Jackson Parish due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
His funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Eros with Revs. Scott Thompson and Franklin Pierce officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Eros under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. Visitation was Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Survivors include his parents, John and Eileen Ruth Goforth; two brothers, Shannon Goforth and wife, April, James Goforth and fiancé, Brooke Marionneaux; nephew, Logan; niece, Laela; special cousin, Brad Goforth; special friends, Keith Cardwell, Shawn Cardwell and Kevin Cardwell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Keith Cardwell, Kevin Cardwell, Joey Marsala, Justin Richardson, Brandon Thrasher and Davey Williams.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Burke, Travis Burke, Robert George, Cody Gilbert and Ryan Tyson, Dusty Harris and Todd Atchinson.

Mildred Yvonne McAndrews Hobbs
The tender soul of Mildred Yvonne McAndrews Hobbs passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008.
Her funeral was at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at McGuire United Methodist Church in West Monroe with Rev. Michi Head officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe. Visitation was Wednesday evening and immediately before the service.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Arbert M. (Chick) Hobbs.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Hobbs and fiancé Jamie Hammond of El Dorado, Ark.; son, Alan Hobbs of High Point, N.C.; grandson, Brett Johnson and wife, Jacky, and great-grandson Ian of El Dorado; sister-in-law, Rachel Brown and brother-in-law Rufus Hobbs, both of West Monroe; and several nieces, nephews and their children.
The family request memorial donations be made to the Twin City Concert Band.

William Aubrey Huskey
William Aubrey "Orb" Huskey 50, of West Monroe, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Monroe.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Claiborne Assembly of God Church with Rev. Clyde Kelly officiating. Interment was in Beulah Cemetery in Calhoun under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. Visitation was Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Suzy Fletcher; son, Johny Huskey; step-daughter, Shona Slavent; brother, Frank Huskey; two sisters, Jessie Hodge and husband, Jerry, and Cindy Huskey; two grandchildren, Mason Slavent and Shyann Ramos; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Lena Johnson, 87, of West Monroe, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, in West Monroe, surrounded by her family.
Her funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe with Revs. Woody Rymes, George Bonner and Larry Eubanks officiating. Interment was in Cypress Cemetery in West Monroe. Visitation was Sunday evening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Johnson; sons, Charles, Johnny and Dewain Johnson; parents, Samuel and Luvenia Murphy; brothers, R.C. and Jay Murphy; sister, Mable Screpetis; and grandchildren, Tracey and Shelly Johnson.
Survivors include three daughters, Elaine Bailey and husband, Jimmie, Gail Foreman and husband, Steve, Judy Osbon and husband, Ray, all of West Monroe; two sons, Ronald Gene Ethington and wife, Jean of Ridgeland, S.C., Donald Ray Johnson and wife, Wanda, of Bluffton, S.C.; sister, Sammie Clarkston of Benton; 20 twenty grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmon King Sr. and Irene White King.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Lamar LaGrone of Downsville; children, William LaGrone and wife, Bonnie, of Truxno, Danielle LaGrone Smith and husband, Bradley, of Marion, and Amanda LaGrone of Downsville; brothers, Edmon King Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Pensacola, Fla., Donnie King of Downsville; sister, Nancy Foster and husband, Wilford, of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Josh LaGrone, Tyler LaGrone, Dylan Cranford, Gracie LaGrone, Dillon Smith and Katelyn Smith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Kennedy Mitchell; and parents, Jera and J. Gordon Mitchell Sr. Survivors include his children: son, Jay Mitchell and wife, Sandra, of West Monroe; daughter, Tina Smith and husband, Jeff, of West Monroe; son, Don Mitchell and wife, Gina, of Plano, Texas; beloved sister, Carolyn Malone of Seminole, Fla.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jimmie and Bill Fowler of Ruston; grandchildren, Anne Marie and Addison Smith of West Monroe, Meredith and James Mitchell of Plano, Texas, and Kasey Stansell of Monroe; and special nieces and nephews, Carol Dimura, Sharon Spataro, Marilyn Dale, Eric Malone and Jim Fowler.

Pamela Hollis Roye, 49, of Downsville died Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Shreveport.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack N. Hollis.

Vera Weems Purdy Russell
Mrs. Vera Weems Purdy Russell, 96, of West Monroe, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008, at Landmark Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Vestal Purdy; by her second husband, John Walker Russell; and by her son, James Vestal Purdy Jr.
Survivors include her daughters, Teresa Purdy Bush and Dorothy Purdy Dupree; step-children, Bobby Russell, Elaine Ables, Loraine Otwell, Grace Barnes, Gladies Spurlock and Herece McMullen; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Weems Medak.

Mr. Archie Elward "Jack" Stroud, 83, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, in his residence.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Lee Stroud.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lorene Stroud; son, Jack Stroud and wife, Kim, of Calhoun; grandson, Adam Stroud of Calhoun; two granddaughters, Hallie Patton and husband, Richie, of Quitman and Heather Stroud of Calhoun; great-grandson, Jake Patton of Quitman; two sisters, Vida Taylor of Baton Rouge and Laverne Carnahan of Little Rock, Ark.

Mrs. Martha Winters, 70, of West Monroe, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Judson and Martha A. Ellerbe; one brother, J. C. Ellerbe; and one sister, Nellie Mae Cruse.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, John C. Winters Jr.; two children, Nancy Fletcher and husband, Bobby, and Bryan Winters and wife, Kim; four grandchildren, Keith Jeselink II and wife, Denise, Devin Kyle Jeselink and fiancé, Jordan Bass, Justin Corey Winters and Jessica Brooke Winters; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Faith Jeselink; one sister, Mary F. Coughran; two nieces and two nephews; and two great nephews.
