Rebels advance with win

The No. 1 seed West Monroe Rebels advanced to the regional round of the state 5A tournament with a 10-1 victory over Grace King Thursday at home.

The regional round game will be Monday at 6 p.m. at home against No. 16 seed Mandeville.

"We came out swinging the bats real well," said West Monroe coach Mark Sims. "We had some good pitching by both Shelby Aulds and Bunk Coronado."

.Aulds started the game and was relieved by Coronado who came on in the fifth to get the save.

Aulds pitched a strong game. He struck out five including the side in the top of the second.

Justin Brodnax was 3-for-5 including scoring two runs,, Shelby Aulds had one single, Les Aulds had two hits, Caleb Clowers had two hits, Jeff Fuller had three hits including one double, Chris Sinclair had three hits and Blake Brassell had one single.

The Rebels scored five runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning. The win gives the Rebels record as 31-4 so far.
