Mid-Continent hires Atkins to oversee lobbying activities
Ross B. Atkins, a Ruston native, has been selected as the new vice president for the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association in Baton Rouge.
A resident of Owings Mills, MD, Atkins is an LSU graduate who has worked both in Louisiana and Washington, D.C.
"Ross has impressive credentials and he is going to be a good fit with the association," said Mid-Continent president Chris John.
"Ross brings a wide range of experience which will complement our existing staff," John said.
As the new vice president, Atkins will assume the role of lead lobbyist for the association and will also be fulfilling some administrative duties, John said.
While a student at LSU from 1982-86, Atkins worked as a personal assistant and committee clerk for then-state Sen. Charles C. Barham. After graduating from LSU, Atkins worked in various positions for then-U.S. Sen. J. Bennett Johnson.
Next he held the position of executive director of the Amite River Basin Drainage and Water Conservation District from 1992 to 1996. While with the Amite commission, Atkins coordinated all federal, state and local activities into a comprehensive basin-wide drainage plan. He also helped secure and administer the $121.6-million federal authorization of the 12-mile Comite River Diversion Canal.
More recently, Atkins was project director for U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu and later joined the Palmer Group, a governmental affairs consulting firm in Washington.
Atkins and his wife Sarah have three children.
Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association is the oldest trade association in the state exclusively representing all aspects of the oil and gas industry in Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico. |
