Lady Crusaders advance to state

An inside-the-park home run by Angel Hamilton helped lift the Claiborne Christian Lady Crusaders to a 4-0 victory over Georgetown in the regional round of the Class C state tournament Thursday.

The win puts the Lady Crusaders in the state tournament for the second year in a row.

The starter and winning pitcher for the Lady Crusaders was Kara Anderson. She threw 13 strikeouts, including striking out the side twice.

"We are fortunate to have her," said Claiborne coach Kristen Bennett. "The girls really help her out and give her a lot of support. I feel blessed to have them. They've done a great job."

Anderson and "six or seven other players are all freshmen," Bennett said.

The Lady Crusaders scored the first run in the bottom of the first.

Hamilton, who ended the game 3-for-3, had a single and she later scored on a wild pitch.

The Lady Crusaders got another run in the bottom of the fourth.

Allison Edwards reached base when she was hit by a pitch and later scored on the second wild pitch of the game.

This set the stage for Hamilton's blast which also scored Jerrica Bennett.

The Lady Crusaders will play Hackberry at 6 p.m., Friday at Frasch Park in Sulphur.

Hackberry was a 10-4 winner over Starkey Thursday in a regional game.
