OCS clinches district

A grand slam home run by Cody Sisson helped lift the Ouachita Christian School Eagles to a 17-4 victory over the St. Frederick Warriors in a District 2-1A contest. The win helped clinch the district title for the Eagles.

The Eagles (20-2, 9-0) have one district game remaining against Grambling, but the nearest rival to the Eagles, St. Frederick (12-13, 7-3), now has three district losses.

"We came out swinging pretty good tonight," said OCS coach Micah Harper. "But we still have one district game remaining."

The district title is his 21st.

Harper had no idea who he would be facing in the state playoffs. The seeding meeting for 2A will be Tuesday.

OCS got things going early on. Matt Kennedy doubled to open the game and scored when John Clay Reeves reached on an error. Reeves scored on James Laird's single.

St. Frederick answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. William Johnston singled, and Chris Buttitta doubled, sending Johnston to third. Williams drew a walk and both Buttitta and Williams scored when Cattar Kennedy hit into a fielder's choice.

In the top of the second, the OCS bats woke up. Reeves singled, Laird reached on an error and Jacob Slade doubled, clearing the bases. Blake Gillikin was hit by a pitch.

Sisson, who had just returned from a serious injury to his arm, slammed a triple up against the left field wall scoring Slade and Gillikin.

Hunter Breed and Taylor Dawson both scored additional runs in the inning. The Eagles scored seven runs in the second inning and five more in the third.

OCS put things out of reach in the top of the third with Sisson's grand slam.

Cade Bowen was the starter and winning pitcher. He struck out four.
