Marķa Blanca Wortham, instructor of Spanish at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, was elected president of the Louisiana Foreign Language Teachers Association at its March 15 meeting.

Wortham, who was honored as Outstanding University Professor in the nation in 2005 by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, served as vice president from 2005-2007.

She has been involved in LFLTA since 2001 when she was elected as a regional university representative.

The ULM Department of Foreign Languages has been involved for many years with the organization.

Dr. Charles Holloway served as a board member, Dr. Ruth E. Smith was president from 2001-2003 and is now a regional representative for universities, and Dr. Carlos Fandal was one of the original founders.

Drs. Fredrick Adams, Holloway, Chris Rubio, and Chris Michaelides have also made numerous presentations at the state conference.

Wortham is a graduate of Texas State University and received her masters in education and Spanish from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
