Monroe to celebrate Earth Day The city of Monroe Earth Day 2008 celebration will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo.
The purpose of the celebration is to create awareness of the Earth and the conservation of its natural resources.
Displays will include educational booths and features from the Girl Scouts Pines to the Gulf Council, U.S. Rural Development, University of Louisiana at Monroe Toxicology Department, Entergy, PAWS, LifeShare, Bob Moss Carpet and more.
Earth Day 2008 activities will include educational experiments and activities led by Young Explorers who will be stationed throughout the zoo. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see certain animals up close and personal, have their faces painted, and participate in a scavenger hunt. The zoo education department will also conduct a drawing for a free week of zoo camp.
