Opal Bird Boyd
Mrs. Opal Bird Boyd, 88, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Father Gregg Riley officiating. Interment was at 1:30 p.m. at Liberty Cemetery in Linville. Visitation was immediately before the service.
Survivors include one brother, Miles Bird and his wife, Ophelia; two nieces, Diana Caldarera and Laura Crowell and her husband, Clinton, and their son, David, and his two children; and one nephew, Perry A. Bird and his three children.

Thelma Carter Brown
Mrs. Thelma Carter Brown, 85, of West Monroe, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in West Monroe.
Her funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun. Visitation was Thursday evening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton Allen Brown who also died on April 2, in 1999; grandchildren, Shane Allen Brown and Stephanie Greer; sister, Verna Littleton; and brothers, Doyle Carter and Mitchell Day.
Survivors include her children; Linda Neeley and husband, Wade Neeley Sr., George Brown and Charlene, Susan Osbon and husband, Don, David E. Brown and wife, Kay, Donna Greer and husband, Russell, Larry Brown, Kenny Brown and wife, Nita, Ronnie Brown and wife, Dawn, Robert Brown and Curtis Brown; sisters, Ollie Guice, Elmarie Guice and husband, Sanders, and Maxine Littleton; brother, Delma Carter and wife, Dean; 31 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Derek Osbon, Scott Brown, David Brown Jr., Joey Brown, Daniel Brown and Adam Douglass.
Honorary pallbearers were Wade Neeley II, Brient Neeley and Paul Osbon.

Janett Rinicker Moulder Chancellor
Mrs. Janett Rinicker Moulder Chancellor, 71, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at St. Francis North Hospital in Monroe.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, at First Baptist Church of Swartz with Rev. Bill McCullen officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation was Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Leo Chancellor; son, Edwin O. Moulder and wife, Gail, of Monroe; daughter, Teresa Gale Moulder Danner and husband, Scott, of West Monroe; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Dale Rinicker of West Monroe; and sister, Myra McDonald of West Monroe.
Pallbearers were Trey Vocker, Chris Corrent, Dusty Kane, Chad Moore, Jamie Modisette and Scott Danner.

Joseph W. Cooper
Mr. Joseph W. "Pop" Cooper, 92, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008.
His funeral was at 1 p.m. Monday, April 7, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Dr. Whit Holmes officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery. Visitation was Sunday evening.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mildred B. Cooper; daughter, Judy C. Martin and husband, Kimber Ledet; granddaughter, Lori Bernard and husband, Stan; grandson, Todd C. Martin; great-grandsons, Jace and Jett Bernard and Derek Bernard; brother, Alton (Jiggs) Cooper and wife, Hilda; sister, Agnes Graff; sisters-in-law, Shirley Edwards and husband, Keith; Audrey Varner, and Margaret Noble; brother-in-law, Herbert Brown and wife, Mary; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Stan Bernard, Derek Bernard, Rusty Babb, David Ford, Ralph Wells and Ronald Babb. Honorary pallbearers were Kimber Ledet, Sonny Smith, Herbert Brown and Johnny Glover.

Ronald Dean Covington Jr.
Ronald Dean Covington Jr., 42, of West Monroe, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008, in West Monroe.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe, with Rev. Dan McLure officiating. Interment was in Twin Cities Cemetery. Visitation was Monday evening.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald D. Covington Sr.
Survivors include one son, Chris Covington; two stepsons, Travis Whitlock and Louis Whitlock; one daughter, Heather Covington; mother, Judy Covington; brother, Kenny Covington and wife, Tamara; sister, Cathy Ross and husband, Danny; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Michael McMellon, Louis Whitlock, Ray Whitlock, Allen Balsamo, Eddie Antley and Lanny Dortch. Honorary pallbearer was W.D. Perkins.

Patricia Ann Mills Holstead of Monroe, 77, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, at First Christian Church in Monroe with Rev. Randy Cook officiating. Burial was in Douglas Cemetery in Choudrant under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe. Visitation was Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Survivors include daughter Pam Lauber and husband, Bill, and their children, Ashlie Cooper of Mobile, Ala. and Elizabeth Sweatt of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter, Debbie Holloway and husband, Ronnie, of Ruston, and their children, LeighAnn McCorkle of Ruston, Rod Holloway of Jackson, Miss. and Katie Holloway of Baton Rouge; daughter, Connie Corley and husband, Roger, of Rowlett, Texas, and their children: Kelly Corley of Austin, Texas, and Paul Corley of Reykjavik, Iceland; eight great-grandchildren; three step-children, Brenda Rocconi and husband, Tom, of Sterlington, Tim Holstead and wife, Veronica, of West Monroe, Danny Holstead and wife, Tanya, of Wylie, Texas; nine step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren.

Mrs. La Fay B. "Mama Fay" Laird, 84, of Monroe, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. David Worthington officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was immediately before the service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Webber A. Laird; granddaughter, Leigh Ann Carlton; and sisters, Jewel Russell and Frankie Cooley.
Survivors include her daughters, DiAnn and Glen McAdams, and Gail and Tom (Tuck) Dupuy; grandchildren, Pamela and Scot Morgan, Ben and Michelle Carlton, Amanda and Brett McMurray, Debi and Chris Thompson and Lori and Paul Hursey; great-grandchildren, Chandler, Reid, Greyson and Kennedy Fay Morgan, Cooper Laird Carlton, Decatur McMurray, Mitchell and Blake Thompson, and Gavin and Audrey Hursey; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Ruby Villers.

Mrs. Edna Mae Brock Mulhearn, 88, of Monroe, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Parkview Baptist Church with Dr. Whit Holmes officiating. Burial was at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation was immediately before the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Brock; her husband, Thomas J. Mulhearn Jr.; and her sister, Rae Landrum Gentry.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Thomas Mulhearn III; grandsons, Burns Mulhearn of Baton Rouge, Dr. Thomas Mulhearn IV and his wife Emma of Durham, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Ella and Hailey; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Mulhearn Slaughter and Jane Mulhearn; and many nieces and nephews including Susan, Jim, and Wayne Landrum, Judy Slaughter Turnley, Jim Slaughter and Larkin Mulhearn.
Pallbearers were Burns Mulhearn, Dr. Thomas Mulhearn IV, Jim Slaughter, Larkin Mulhearn, Tom Scott Jr., J. Alex Landrum and Wayne Landrum. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. George T. Walker, Dr. Ralph Asbury, Joe Worley, Edward Seymour Jr., Guy Barr, Mark Dent, members of Friends Sunday School Class, Dr. David Bird's Sunday school class of Parkview Baptist Church and members of local P.E.O. chapters.

Shirley Ann Willis Pridgen
Shirley Ann Willis Pridgen, 69, of West Monroe, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, after a lengthy illness.
Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at McClendon Baptist Church with Rev. James Gardner officiating. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was immediately before the service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Elaine Willis.
Survivors include one sister, Yvonne Peel and husband, Ricky, of West Monroe; two daughters, Janet Anderson and husband, Randy, of Jonesboro, and Faith Green and husband, Patrick, of Benton; two sons, Tommy Caughlin and wife, Teresa, of Jonesboro and Charles Pridgen of West Monroe; five grandchildren, Michelle Lay, Michael Davis, Jacob Green, Kelsee Green and Cherilynn Caughlin; and three great-grandchildren, Emily, Tyler and Bryan Lay.

Tressie Jean Colson Reneau
Tressie Jean Colson Reneau, 79, of Monroe, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008, following a lengthy illness.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe, with Rev. Rodney J. Sanders officiating. Interment was in Loch Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday afternoon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Ray Reneau; and two sons, Ronnie Lee and David Michael Reneau.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda Reneau, Karen Reneau and husband, David Ness, Paula Jones and husband, Larry, and Barbara McKenzie and husband, Michael; sister, Nell Powell; five grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
Family members served as pallbearers.

William C. Staab
Mr. William C. "Bill" Staab, 81, of Monroe, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008.
His funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Monroe with Rev. Mark Watson and Monsignor Edmund Moore officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation and a wake were held Tuesday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl H. Staab and Helen Metzger Staab; his sister, Dorothy Louise; and brother, James Staab, all of Springfield, Ill.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Nancy; three children, William Carl Staab Jr. and his wife, Dianna, of Niles, Mich., Patrick Paul Staab of Memphis, Tenn., and Jennifer Staab Boykin of Monroe; six grandsons, Zak, Will and Daniel Staab of Niles, Mich., Thomas Staab of Little Rock, Ark., and Corbin and Avery Boykin of Monroe; brothers, Dr. Paul Staab of New Orleans, Mr. John Staab of Tucson, Ariz. and Richard Staab of Springfield, Ill.; sister, Helen Sullivan and sister-in-law, Betty Staab, both of Springfield.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Bershen, Chris Edwards, Steve Haedicke, Michael Sullivan, Greg Sullivan and Ben Staab. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Richard Blanchard, Billy Edmondson, Craig Henry, Johnny Johnson, Paul Kirkpatrick, Bill Kelly, H. Russell Wood III, Dr. Eugene Worthen and members of the Kiwanis Club.

Mrs. Ethel Estell Thompson, 83, of Farmers Branch, Texas, and formerly of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, April 1, at her daughter's residence in Farmers Branch.
Her funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. William Smith officiating. Grandson Jason Jenkins delivered the eulogy. Interment was in Twin Cities Memorial Gardens in West Monroe. Visitation was Friday evening.
Survivors include her son, Johnny Lee Dunn and fiancée, Debbie Jenkins, of Monroe; daughter, Judy Ann Hacker and husband, Tom, of Farmers Branch, Texas; sister, Shirley Bailey of West Monroe; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were J.M. Jones, Randy Jenkins, Tom Hacker, Richie Dunn, Lee Dunn and Shannon Schupbach.
