Seven parish teams make playoffs
by Joe Durham, Jr. - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
There are seven Ouachita Parish girls softball teams that will be playing next week as the state playoffs begin.

Seeding meetings for all classifications will be held Friday beginning at 10 a.m. at Alexandria Senior High School. The playoffs will begin the first of next week.

The purpose of the seeding meetings is to determine each team's opponent and where the games will be played.

Those teams winning district titles include West Ouachita, with a 22-3-1 overall record and an 8-0 District 2-4A record.

West Ouachita was a quarterfinalist a year ago.

A change in coaches for the Lady Chiefs didn't seem to matter too much.

Coach Lori Bruscato took over when coach Sherry Helms left to go to Natchitoches.

"It was a pretty smooth change," said Bruscato. "The girls adjusted well. We're just going to have to be in top form and ready to play. We don't know what's going to happen at this point."

Neville finished in second place with a 4-2 district record behind West Ouachita.
Sterlington won its District 2-2A title with a 6-0 mark.

Ouachita Christian School won a second district title in a row in a new district, 2-1A, with a new coach in Andy Mosher.

OCS was a semifinalist last year in class 2A.

The Lady Eagles record is 7-1 in district, which actually ties them with Cedar Creek.

The other district winner is Claiborne Christian, which was a state quarterfinalist a year ago.

Claiborne Christian won District 2-C with a 2-0 record.

Neville had a 4-4 record, and West Monroe, who finished second in District 2-5A with a 6-2 record.

St. Frederick coach Kip Davis said his team would probably be seeded about 18th.
