Ike to host horse show
by Joe Durham, Jr. - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
What is being billed as the biggest horse show at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center this year will be taking place in two weeks.

For the third year in a row, the Cotton Stakes Cutting Horse Classic will take center stage.

The 10-day show will be held April 25-May 4.

Over 600 entries are expected from across the country.

Entry is open to horses ages 4-6, both amateur and professional.

Horses will show off their cutting skills, working to keep a cow separated from its herd.

Cutting, one of the fastest growing equine sports, began as a ranch necessity. It's now an arena favorite.

Each ride is scored by five judges.

This year's payout is expected to exceed $800,000 and all champions will be awarded Klapper spurs.

A crawfish boil and charity auction benefiting Arco's Early Childhood Intervention Program will be held in conjunction with the show.

Admission is free and the show will begin at approximately 8 a.m. each day.

Vendors will also be on hand offering a variety of merchandise, from jewelry to saddles.
