Police juror looks to feds to fund southside project Police juror Pat Moore hopes to acquire federal funding to pay for the construction of a southside golf course, which she says could be a catalyst for more economic development in southern Ouachita Parish.
The golf course project at one time was part of the police jury's capital outlay requests to the state. The police jury agreed earlier this year to shorten its capital outlay request list after former legislator Willie Crain suggested the jury narrow its list and reprioritize its projects.
According to Moore, U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander has indicated that he might be able to secure some federal funds for the golf course project, but the proposed project would have to be reworked in to be submitted for federal funding.
The police jury agreed to have parish engineer Don Harrison rename the proposed project and rework it for it to meet the necessary guidelines for federal submission.
"This is not just about southside golf," Moore said, adding that the endeavor was part of an overall plan to revitalize southern Ouachita Parish.
"We have to do something to attract more businesses and residents and bring us to another level," Moore said.
She said the complex would include more than golf. She envisions tennis courts and other recreational facilities, as well as a subdivision for retired residents. |
