Annual Big Bass tourney planned
by Joe Durham, Jr. - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The 17th annual Ronald McDonald House Big Bass Tournament will be held May 17-18 on the Ouachita River.

"This is our annual fundraiser," said Georgia Street, director of the RMH. "Things are looking real good right now. We hope to get back up to 1,000 fishermen this year."

Street said last year, about 300 boycotted the tournament because of the fishing restrictions on the Felsenthal National Wildlife Reserve in Arkansas. The restrictions are still there for 2008.

Fishermen may fish the rest of the Ouachita all the way to DeGray Lake dam and south to mile marker 1.

Hours of the tournament are from 5:38 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day with hourly weigh-ins available.

Headquarters for this year's tournament will once again be Lazarre Point Park in West Monroe.

There will be literally tons of prizes as the tournament gets underway.

Prizes include a Toyota Tundra regular cab truck, a Toyota Tacoma crew cab truck and a Can-Am Outlander 400.

Cash money will be given away during the hourly weigh-ins which start at 7 a.m. each day. Final weigh-in each day will be at 3 p.m.

Entry fees are as follows. $85 each day, or $150 for the tournament, or $170 for the McDonald's Challenge. After May 10 the entry fee will increase by $20 in all categories.
