Annual trail ride starts Sunday
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Bayou State Trailriders will begin their fourth annual 125-mile ride at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 30.

The ride starts at the Monroe Civic Center and finishes at the Southern University campus. The benefit ride raises money for scholarships to Southern's agriculture program.

Over the past three years, the Bayou State Trailriders have raised more than $3,000 dollars in scholarship money for these students. Monroe Mayor James E. Mayo will be the honorary trail boss when the ride leaves from Monroe.

More than 60 riders from Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and Mississippi are expected to participate in the week-long journey from Monroe to Baton Rouge. They will camp in Archibald, Winnsboro, Sicily Island, Ferriday and St. Francisville. The ride is open to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and horses.

Riders can register on site Sunday morning. The cost for participation is a one-day fee of $10; a two-day fee of $15; or a $35 fee for the entire week.
