West Monroe, Ruston mix it up
by Joe Durham, Jr. - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The West Monroe Rebels and the Ruston Bearkats are in a battle for District 2-5A supremacy this week.

The new district schedule has each team playing each other five times.

Therefore, the teams in the district get to know each other very well.

"We've seen each other now," said West Monroe coach Mark Sims. "We've just got to go out and execute. That's the name of the game."

Execute they did Tuesday night in the first game of the series as the Rebels prevailed for a 6-4 victory.

"We played pretty well last night," Sims said. "Once Shelby (Aulds, the Rebels starting pitcher) settled down, he got in a good rhythm."

The Rebels spotted Ruston two runs in the top of the first, but answered with three runs in the bottom of the second and never trailed again.

Caleb Clowers led off the second inning with a walk and Jeff Fuller singled to score
Clowers. Chris Sinclair drew a walk and Blake Brazzell singled to score Clowers.

Stephen Newman singled, scoring Sinclair.

The Rebels got one more run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Aulds pitched out of a jam in the top of the sixth when Ruston added two more runs.
Aulds finished with seven strikeouts.

The next game in the series is at 6:30 p.m., today in Ruston and the third game will be at 2 p.m., Saturday back in West Monroe. Sims said he would probably start Bunk Coronado on Saturday.
